Breakin'News: Heavy D, Dead at 44 [R.I.P]

TheVerdict:
Wow. I'm sad to report that Hip Hop just suffered a major blow. Heavy D, 44, has passed away unexpectedly. Heavy D was one of the major Hip-Hop entertainers that helped the culture gain mainstream influence and a dedicated fan base. He made fun loving rap for the ladies and the fellas and wasn't afraid to step on the dance floor and show up everyone in the room. That Big Brother could move! I, for one, was a Heavy D fan as a kid and really appreciated him making music that my father could introduce me to in good faith. He will be missed. Why do they have to go so young, that man was only 44. And he damn sure didn't look 44 at the BET Awards, he looked like 90's iconic Heavy D.

Details from TMZ below:

TMZ REPORTS:

Rap legend Heavy D -- one of the most influential rappers of the '90s -- died earlier today ... TMZ has learned.

Heavy D -- real name Dwight Arrington Myers -- was rushed to an L.A. hospital around noon today ... and was pronounced dead at the hospital at 1 PM. He was 44 years old.

We've learned a 911 call was placed from Heavy's Beverly Hills home around 11:25 AM to report an unconscious male on the walkway .

When help arrived, we're told Heavy D was conscious and speaking -- and was transported to a nearby hospital.

He died a short time later.

Cops are investigating the death -- and so far, there are no obvious signs of foul play.

Breakin'News: Rakim Nominated for Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame

TheVerdict:
We doing it like this in HIP-HOP now! Rakim, the 18th Letter, the Seventh Seal (this nigga be loving him some numbers) rightfully has been nominated for the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame. I'm blown by this. I never really pay attention to who gets inducted in, but Rakim definitely set a standard that rappers follow (some unappreciatively) today.

Recently, you were nominated for a spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. What was your reaction when you heard the news?

I was speechless. You can almost say, “Yeah, I made it,” getting nominated to that right there. It’s a big accolade. If I get in, it’ll definitely put the icing on the cake. To be noticed on that plateau, for me, is enough. It definitely lets you know that you’re noticed, appreciated, and somewhat made it in music.

But I’ve got other things to prove. I don’t know why, but now it’s like [I'm] proving you can be over 40, still be relevant, still be nice on the mic, and you can still be a beast. All of these things. It don’t stop with me. I guess with the titles that I’ve been handed through the years, it inspires me to keep that up. If not, push it further.

Lloyd Banks "The Cold Corner 2" [MIXTAPE DOWNLOAD]

TheVerdict:
It's been a loooooong while since Banks dropped something. I'm very curious to see if he's converted back to the old "Lock you in the closet with the West Nile Mosquito" Banks or the new HFM2 Banks. Either way, I'll always be a curious Banks fan, but never a die hard one. He still one of th illest underground spitters.
