I asked the simple question on twitter today, "Who's the better artist, with the better catalogue so far, BigKRIT or J Cole?" I didn't realize how real of a question that was for people who live and breath this hip hop sh*t. It was just something that I'd been thinking about and never really given much thought to because I listen to both artists equally. Or do I? The response seemed to be pretty one sided depending on gender. Seeing as I'm not aTwitter Mogul, these results can not be used in any type of Hip Hop study. I'm just a nigguh with a blog, a twitter account, and come people who actually read my blog and tweets. That sh*t still amazes me, not much tho.
While the guys on my timeline voted K.R.I.T. as quick as they could get in a mention, my female followers chose J Cole. Now, Big Simba ain't no fool. I can clearly tell why females would go for Cole first given the way he's been presented on covers and in videos and the -- I hate this word-- "swag" that seems to compliment him in even YOUR girlfriend's eyes. I remember my significant seeing him in concert and instantly saying, "He's cute!" Don't worry ladies and gents, I handled mine later that night. And even though Cole may still be "cute", that's all he is...Namsayin! But anyway, back to the subject at hand. Cole talks to women more than he talks to men. Lets just keep it real here on the urban streets of Bloggers Ave. right inbetween Park Pl. and MLKjr. blvd. BUCK! BUCK! BUCK! BUCK! BigKRIT in my ears, is just deeper with more feeling in his delivery, which is ironic when you consider that J Cole is actually talking to your girl on a lot of tracks.
So then I started to go mixtape by mixtape. Yea I know mixtapes don't get awards, but who gives a damn, especially in the age where mixtapes are better than the studio albums. Just keeping it trill my dude. So I went by most recent. That puts #Returnof4Eva vs. #FNL (Friday Night Lights). Personally, I chose Return of 4 Eva. We're talking about an album that actually improved on the southern hospitality behind KRIT's first project which blew him out of orbit onto every Hip Hop mag cover and blog site. We're talking about a creative project (Returnof4Eva) that I have not seen one negative remark about. A drop that had twitter in shambles begging KRIT for that stuff to make us feel good, just one more hit.
But wait, didn't Friday Night Lights shut down J Cole's blog page the instant it dropped that long night last winter? Cole had the girls wet, the dudes nodding, and aviator headphones getting they dusts knocked off something too proper. And the mixtape was no sleeper, and you still hear whispers about it and people giving it the nod out of respect, but did the momentum of the buzz really remain strong enough for long enough? Strong enough for what, and long enough for what? That mark we set in Hip Hop culture where you can undeniably speak of how "untouchable" or "great" an artist's work and catalogue is. Which we conveniently follow up with, "
So now I pose the question, #TheWarmUp vs #WuzHere? Ofcourse it all subjective, unless you're speaking to me. Then, I'm going to have to clarify to the world that Wuz Here is objectively the better piece of work. I don't have to really explain my opinions. They're based on factual facts my nigguh! Just agree and move on. So I asked all that to ask this, "Who's going to have the better debut album?" Who's really #1 on your list, and who's really #2. If you say Big Sean I will twitter slap the fug-outta-ya-fuggin-face with a wet rag dipped in a concoction of Foxy Brown's and Lil Kim's jail house pussy juice funk!

KRIT is nowhere the mc that Cole is, Cole easilly a better lyricist and have more range than KRIT and your a fool if you think J COle only caters to women. How does I get up, See world, etc catered towards women, i just think dudes honesty attracts women, he doesn't go out his way to make tracks for them. With that said, i do feel KRIT is the more consistent producer, Cole has more range but KRIT is better at making quality beats.
Either way both are dope, but J Cole is more of a lyricist in the traditional Nas, Jay, Andre 3000 sense. KRIT is more of a Pimp C type artist.
KRIT has this all day long. I think Cole is ahead lyrically but Krit is the total package. Production values on Wuz Here and Return are just unbelievable. I've never donated to the paypal account of a rapper but after listening to Return I went and gave Krit my money.
Nice blog!
If you listen to Cole's bars, he caters to women...ALOT. He's not a simp like Wale, he's more a Lady's man, with a baller mental. So don't get it mistaken brotha, I ain't no fool, I know this rap sh*t very well. I think people put alot more emphasis on punchlines and slick talk then on concepts, flow, SONGS, and lyrics as a whole. People are quick (and lets be real, u heard this on twitter and read it online) to compare Cole to Nas, and Jay..etc.. Andre 3k? You're reaching dude..stop it! To only label KRIT a producer is blasphemous. He IS the total package. Cole is a nice lead up, but he's not on the level that KRIT is musically yet. Check Wuz Here and Returnof4Eva if you need a reference.
Thank you for the comment LaTosha!
Ive seen a intense light in J Cole's mixtape, that could pull of a legendary debut, as where Krits, will be good no doubt and may be more consistent then J. Cole.
Its kinda like Nas and his illmatic, dope ass album, but then could never reproduce such a master piece kinda fallin off besides a few albums or where Jay Z has had some good ass albums but no where near as illmatic, but more consistency i believe .
My opinion, J Cole
The Jcol and Nas comparisons are a lil annoying at this point. No disrespect, but I don't know WHO started these comparison, but that person really made a horrible comparison. J Cole has not at all shown the ability to produce an Illmatic "lyrically". I can't even name a new rapper who's shown that deep of a poetic connection with the beat and his experience in a harsh reality to produce an illmatic.
In opinion, Cole is a mixtape artist. He has made mixtapes. They sound like Mixtapes, because they are mixtapes. Lyrically he is gifted and is clever but has yet to break that "deep" barrier in my opinion. He's still bragadoccious, which is something I hope he breaks away from with his debut. We need more material from him, where the words are more than just witty or metaphorically clever, punchliney.
Krit is beyond that, and honestly, never was about that. Krit is more a poet because of his feel and the way he connects with the listener. That is makes both his mixtapes, ALBUMS.
Not to get it twisted tho.. BOTH ARTISTS are great additions to the Rap game and I hope both have "instant classics" stamped on their debut albums. That fact that I don't expect as much from Cole as I do from Krit is more of a reason for me to buy Cole's tape, because I WANT him to surprise me and make me say ..Damn...Cole may be the better artist.
