Yea, yall know what time it is. Fans of both artists KNEW this question was bound to be asked, so f*ck it. I'll ask it first. From jump, when I saw that Cole had a song on Cole World called Rise and Shine, I immediately started humming Krit's version of Rise and Shine. The songs sound NOTHING ALIKE. However, since they both have the same name, the question must be asked. Which "Rise and Shine" is the better one?

The Facts:
- Big K.R.I.T.'s "Rise And Shine" is the intro track to his album. Essentially, it's one of the most important songs on the album. No only does it open up what most fans have come to call an instant classic LP, it actually sets the tone fo the album. The song has two verses and a hook that's damn near half the size of one of the verses. The beat is people chill but up tempo and really catches the feel of an early morning rise in the country. It also has some of the best scratching of any track on the album to add that necessary hip hop element. In the song, Krit talks about prayer, and the need to get up and do something in life because time is precious and irreplaceable.
- J Cole's "Rise and Shine" is a little past the mid way point of a good but no where near classic album debut. Its arguably, as one of my followers put it, the best song on the album. I agree. This is the Cole we heard on Looking for Trouble and Who Dat. The beat has a nice melody with singers harmonizing through hymn like humming. It definitely gives off a religious or rising-up feel. The opening is very triumphant with one of the illest beat drops this year. The song has 3 long verses and a very short, almost non existent hook. It's not even really a hook, its more a beat break or a bridge of "My Soul to Take" repeated about 4x.
The Comparison:
- These are two very different artist who at one time seemed to be the two best in the game. Krit's laid back opener flow of understanding and pleading for the drive to go on compared to Cole's bragadoshish, lyrical uptempo "ain't no f*cking wit me" flow, give off completely different vibes. However, the two songs make similar references. Which really leaves a question mark over my head as to wonder was Krit's song an inspiration for Cole's song. Both songs reference prayer. Its actually one of the main themes in both songs. Both artist also reference Michael Jordan directly. I can't call it yall. As of right now, I'm leaning more towards the countrier of the two.
